cichlid origins

I dont' think so. One way to tell is that wild caughts are usually way more expensive and are labeled as wild caughts. Some even come with certificates sayign theya re wild. But if you just stick and wild caught and a captive bred in a tank you may not be able to tell the difference. I have seen wild caughts that look better then captives and i have seen captives that are better looking then wilds. SO i dont' think you could tell.

WHy are you wondering?

I was just interested, i know a guy who has angels and he says that they are wild caught because they have red eyes. I wanted to know if that was true for all cichlids

I can't tell by the looks of the fish if it is wild caught or not. The only way is if you deal with a reputable guy that sells the fish. Also like mentioned before a true wild caught fish is usually more expensive then a localy bred fish.

certain types of fish can be determined only captive bred being cross-breeds that would not happen in the wild but it would be hard to prove one fish wild caught over another. a reputable dealer would be about the only way to be sure it's wildcaught but I don't really see the advantage other than limiting inbreeding.
