at what age if any can you sex a jack dempsey and/or an oscar?how would you do this?what are some indications or hints male or female?

I would say female, it is hard to tell at that size. They do get more colorful the older they get, what i read says it takes about a year to get full coloration. If you want to help boost color try Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets, along with whatever else you are feeding. Mine always get more color when I throw live rosies in the tank with them. They like to catch their own food. Hope this helps :)

how big is yours? it has much more color than mine. but only had it couple days and it has much more color thanit did at lfs. trying to get a pic but not going well at all.

Right now I would say he is about 7" and close to 2 years old. Try the hikari Pellets on yours along with flake food and frozen. Mine loves it. It seems like a lot to spend on food but the color you get from the variety really pays off.

mine is 2 1/2 inches and there is a reason that i only have one pic he /she is very skittish and afraid of its own shadow so its not easy sneaking up on it

yeh i would liove to see as many other juvie jd's as possible to compare because so far it seems min has less color than all the others ive seen but the ones it does have are very vibrant i hiope for a very colorful one like a male

well where i got mine they only had one so i had to no choice but it has issues anyway i finally got a test kit and everything seems fine other than my .25 amonia but i think i might have messed him up when i first got him because i thought that changing the filter would do him a favor.
