i will be inheriting an african cichlid in about 2 weeks once the tank is ready i'm curious to exactly what kind he/she is i don't have a picture yet but i will in about a week i even went looking through pics to try to find out what kind he/she is but couldn't find one. He/she is about 7 in long and 1 1/2 in wide moostly a brownish grey color with splatters of flourescent orange on him/her with an outline of a circle by his/her back fin that is also flourescent orange also he /she is 2 yrs old. any help would be very much appreciated.

:huh: Hard without a picture but it may be an Oscar or a Jack Dempsey (right now my brain won't differentiate). Google them, or go to a cichlid site!! (Ha, a JD for JD).

can't be an oscar or a JD, those are both Central/South American

Could be an OB (orange blotched) something. Google for images of OB peacock, OB zebra, and OB fuelleborni.

Although you said African it does sound like a tiger oscar, especially with the flourescent orance circle on the back fin.
