cichlids keep getting bloat

From my exp. they stopped eating upon bloating. Although tried Epsom Salt bath but due to difficulties in determining whether it is due to infection or indigestion, Ive always tried meds after few losses. Perhaps indigestion leading to a conditions which may require meds.

Only meds which have worked on some occassions were either Naladixic Acid or Oxolinic Acids. Probably success rates depended alot on how early/fast I can diagnose/treat.. Should be administered in q/t though..

No problem, I hope I can be helpful. If you see them not swimming too much, hiding, breathing fast and with very fine whitish pooh hanging from the belly, they are not improving enough. If any of those visible symptoms disappears, the treatment may be working; but do not stop it until completed as stated earlier. You will know easily when they get better. If they search for food, it is a good sign; but I would make them fast for 3 days anyways.
BTW, how much food are they eating normally; a 2 min meal or more than that? How many times each day?
 
so the three demasoni's aren't doing any better. one just died today and the other two are still acting the same. I'm not sure what more i can do. Can i increase epsome salts another tsp per 10 gallons bringing my concentration up to 3 tsp per 10 gallons? or is their pretty much nothing more that i can do?

It is a tough decision really. I would do one of these 2 things: Either leave them in the main tank with the 2 tsp/10gal dosage or put them in a smaller hospital tank with the 3tsp/10gal dosage.
 
Im with you 100 percent there shayna!!! Thats all I use but I do use a 3rd type food thats ocean nutrition cichlid veg flakes . also a supplement of Ocen nutrit. green marine algae. My tropheus illangis "Fire up colors " Real nice. NO BLOAT EVER. KNOCK ON WOOD!! Love your avitar . Mudskippers? berks cty herp show this sat. maybe Ill get a few?

Yep, I had lost a few fish to bloat before the NLS, and haven't had an issue since. My fishes' colors have really improved. I raised a group of leleupi, gave one to a friend... She returned him to me months later when he wasn't playing nice with her other fish. I put him back with his siblings and he was a light yellow, whereas the others of mine are bright orange. It was incredible. She fed a variety of foods, including Dainichi, and is now switching to NLS.
Yep, those are indian mudskippers in my avatar and I highly recommend them if you can dedicate a tank to them. I have a thread in the brackish section if you want more info/ pics...
 
Yeah i forgot that Ocean Nutrition Spirulina that's some good stuff as well..
 
update. I lost all the fish that had the bloat signs. I switched to NLS thera a with garlic feeding them 3 days then 1 day of fast and so on. They all seem fine. My next problem is i only have 7 demasoni's which i'm a bit afraid that they might start picking each other off because their numbers aren't high enough. I guess only time will tell it's been hard to find healthy stock of demasoni's a lot of them show signs of inbreeding.
