I have done some readying on the internet and found that some sites say that you can have certian cichlids with semi-aggressive fish, is that true?

cichlids and semi-aggressive fish are two very big groups. you'd have to narrow it down a bit to get an accurate answer. african cichlids? west african riverine? south american? central american? dwarf cichlids? angels? discus? as far as semi-aggressive - puffers? barbs? sharks? large catfish? bichirs? large characins? natives?

Aggression on the part of cichlids is often misunderstood. Protection of territory and breeding rights is part of all the cichlid personalities. This will manifest as serious aggression where tank mates are incompatible and/or tank size is inadequate and/or aquascaping is not correct. Properly kept however, these behaviours need not prevent you from also having other types of fish.

You can't apply a general rule of thumb as there is so much variance in the personality of cichlid species, and this is then further complicated by the conditions under which they are kept. Equally, those darn fish don't read the same books we do unfortunately and with cichlids you always have a chance of getting a bit of extra 'personality' (i.e. murderous intent/suicidal need to spawn).

What cichlids are you considering/what other fish do you have and want to try cichlids, and what size tank are you discussing.
