circular saw

What brand did you buy? If it's a Craftsman, take it in to Sears and see--often they will replace the product if it's faulty, and they will repair it if they won't replace it.
Excellent idea! And, maybe get your next one there..

Don't mess with trying to repair power tools unless you really know what you're doing. You don't want it to fly apart - and who knows what, just to save a few bucks. ..Not worth it..

;)

Black and deckers are pretty cheap saws so it wiuld probably cost you more to fix it than to get a new saw. If this is a saw that will be getting plenty of use, I would suggest getting a worm drive as they hold up much better.

Agreed--with tools, if you plan on using them often, it's way better to get quality, even if it costs more. I don't mind having cheap things that aren't used lots, but for staple tools, you want something reliable and sturdy. Ends up being cheaper, since you only have to buy it once!

I have a Skill mag drive saw that I have had for about 6 years that replaced one that was similar that was 8 or 9 years old. Keep in mind that I am in the construction trade so my tools get "used". They hold up well.
