I am in the beginning stages of evaluating a very low-tech planted tank approach. I have had the tank established for a while, but never was able to get 'phenominal' growth with DIY CO2.

I read a few interesting articles on low-tech/filterless tanks. Figured it was worth a try.

So, with some apprehension, I unplugged my HOB filters and crossed my fingers. Within 24 hours, my nitrate levels were at zero for the first time (I have a full fish load)!!!

I need circulation, however.

The big question: If I am going to put a submerged powerhead for circulation of CO2, nutrients, etc, what is the smallest sized powerhead I should get for the tank? I don't want rapids or flying java ferns, just decent circulation?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, hope this link works..

Link: Mini Jet

I just got the 404 to make sure there are no 'dead spots' on the one side of my aquarium. These pumps are adjustable too!

the mini jet model 404 would work just fine for you, or you can look at 201 series powerheads.

I have a 201 Aquaclear powerhead myself, but the mini jet from Drs Foster and Smith is probably less expensive.
