I just read a post regarding Ich. One of the suggestions was to get a cleaner shrimp. I know from reading about them that they "clean" the fish of parasites and dead scales. Does this mean that it reduces the chance of the fish getting parasitic disease? In my 46 gallon I have a cleaner shrimp and my flame angel spends a good amount of time getting "groomed". None of the other fish, 3 green chromis and a blennie seem to allow any cleaning. I find this relationship facinating. I have a 75 gallon and would like to add cleaner shrimp to it. Can you keep more than one? If so how many would you suggest for a 75 gallon that will be a mini-reef .

Yes, you can keep more than one, they are generally pretty even tempered. In a 75 I would think you could have three of four if you so desired. Each would stake out his own "spot." I have two in a 46, and haven't had any problems between them.

They live well in groups. When mature, they are hermaphrodites, so they will fertilize each other and release larvae every 2-3 weeks. Free plankton! From what I have seen and read, they don't have much effect on ich (the parasites are small and embedded), and small fish don't like to be cleaned that much. I have seen some great pix of shrimp "surfing" on tangs, though. Although 4 sounds fine, how about starting with 2 and adding more later? They don't attack newcomers, so adding more won't be a problem.

Seriously, you'd think that this was the Jamie Lee Curtis hermaphrodite urban legend thread. If you don't get this joke I'll explain later. :D
