I have some anubias Nana in my guppy tank and it's covered in thick algae, the brush stuff. I can't get it off the leaves and I'm going to take it all out of that tank. How can I clean it off so I don't bring the algae into whatever other tanks I set it in? It's not just the leaves, it's on the rhizome too.

I'd get a container put the nana in there fill it with water then overdose Excel for a few days. That will get rid of the BBA.

That, hydrogen peroxide, or bleach will be the only options I think.

I'd be worried about using bleach on the rhizome.

I've heard about peroxide and read a step by step on it's use. It tore up the leaves of the frailer plants, but they all survived. The anubias has some really thick leaves so I think I'll try that first since I don't have any excel. When I do it I'll make sure to report back with my findings.

I removed the Anubias. The peroxide would most likely not affect it from what I've read. I just didn't want the hassle of trying to measure or do math to determine the 'dosage' to prevent harm to the guppies. I put the roots in some ecocomplete so the plants would stand up (for pictures sake really.) After that I put in 3 capfuls of peroxide, but since there were hardly any bubbles, which I assumed was due to old peroxide, I splashed a bit on top of both plants. within an hour there were bubbles everywhere with tiny champagne like bubbles in the water.

That was all yesterday, I woke up this morning to pink algae which is what I was expecting. That doesn't make it any less cool. Here are pictures!

The instructions say after a day of pink algae the next morning it had all fallen off. So more on that tomorow, or later today.
