My filter tubes have alot of stuff building up inside of them and just running hot water through the tubes is not cleaning them. Anyone have some good suggestions on what to use/how to clean the insides of these tubes? Thanks so much in advance!!

Until you can get one, take a small piece of cotton material and tie it to a piece of fishing line long enough to go completely through the tube. Tie a small fishing weight to the other end. Drop weight through tube, pull cotton through. Do as many times as necessary to clean the tube.

Would a nylon barrel snake work? Prolly more expensive than a filter brush. Something else you can try is to wad up paper towels, shove them in, and push them through with the back end of a wooden kitchen spoon.

great!! thanks for the help guys..will try that cotton with fish line till I get a filter brush....

Along with filter brushes pick up a flexible one as well they are a real time saver!

For cleaning the hose on gravel vacs, I do pretty much the same thing - drop a weighted line thru with other end tied to a brush.

for the smaller length tubes, such as the ones on an Aquaclear hob that come apart in sections, i use a pipe cleaner that has been doubled up and twisted on the end. run the pipe cleaner up and down inside the tube all over while you are running hot water through the tube. works great! it's a lil tricky to get at all the gunk in the two 90degree angled areas, but with a lil elbow grease and nimble fingers, it works.

I use my baby bottle brush. Never needed it with my daughter but works great for cleaning my fish stuff.
