cleaning filters?

Is it all right to clean the surface of the sponge/carbon filters in my penguins? I think it might keep the smell down, also I was thinking that with the bio-wheels Iwould not have to worry about killing off all the benficial bacteria.

Gently rinsing the cartridge in tank water should be included in your weekly maintanance. I find that the penguin cartridges clog really fast, check this thread out
