Cleaning the Eheim 2217's Impeller - Kindly guide me

Hey Friends !

I hope all is well !

My Eheim 2217 has been running for almost an year now and I want to clean the impeller. Just wanted to request if somebody can kindly guide me a little on this, as I've never done it before nor have I seen anyone do it... I'm just afraid of harming the filter (as it was a huge investment for me and I had to pour in all my savings for it...)

Is it very complicated and delicate ? Is it very easy to damage my filter while doing this...

It will be a great help if someone can kindly guide me step-by-stp regarding this...

when you take the top off the canister, there should be a little plastic thing that holds the impeller in. Turn it and you should be able to pull it out, along with the impeller. I usually use a small toothbrush to clean off the impeller and the well it sits in. Rinse it out well, then reassemble. Its pretty straightforward once you get it open and look at it, and as long as you don't step on it or something it should be fine.

Rotate the pump latch to unlock it.

Remove the pump cover

Remove the impeller, I use tweezers cause it's slippery.

Pull the ceramic shaft straight up to remove it (be careful as it's fragile)

Then clean the impeller with an old toothbrush & clean the impeller well with a tube brush. Stick the shaft back into the center of the well (it seats into a rubber bushing) that you can see if you use a flashlight. Slide the impeller back over the shaft, put the pump cover back on and secure with the pump latch.

Just wanted to ask one more question - what size of tube brush has to be used to clean the well ? We dont get all th Eheim spareparts here and so I will not be able to get the proper eheim brush set. If you can kindly let me know the approx diameter of the tube brush, I'll get it here from a local home supply shop...

Kindly guide me...

It's approximately 9/16" diameter. You might also want to pick up these other sizes - 1" and 1 1/4". These are soft bristles that flex easily and they were the original set that came with one of my Eheim filters.
