HI I am posting this here for the more eyes on it and I will also be posting this in the invert forum too.

Ok here is the question. Is there a tank inhabitant that will clean the eggs that nerite snails leave around?

My tank is a 20 long. substrate is the black carrib sea eco complete gravel for growing plants. the lighting is a fluval aquasky *the color changable one*. the filter is a marineland penguine 350 with a course black sponge on the intake as a pre filter *and too keep critters from getting hurt on over volume intake*. and a cheapo preset 78 degree heater.

the living occupants of the tank are
3 marimo balls
1 package of bulb water lilly onion and some third kind of bulbed plant. all unsprouted so far
1 red "half moon" betta named "fish"
And depending on fishes appitite there will be 20 - 40 ghost shrimp *paleomontes* and or red or orange colored neocardina - or cardina davidi
and in the future some zebra danio's *the purple and green colored ones*

So with that said I am looking for is if there is a critter who would eat the egg sacks of the nirite snails that i plan to put in. I don't like the idea of having to spend alot of time manually ceaning and scraping eggs off of every thing. Yes I know this makes me lazy but my goal in this tank is in this order;
number A have a happy home for fish.
letter 2 a visually appealing view for me
thirdly not have to over due the maintenance and by that i am talking weekly water changes light gravel vaccuming and glass cleaning

so that is my question and if nerites snails don't fit in to that i'm totally ok with it i will puick up some rabbit snails *orange 2* *black 2 *

below is pics of my tank sorry they are crappy my phone camera suck trust me it is more clear and viberant in person.

I do not think Nerite snails can breed (lay eggs) in fresh water.

Nerite eggs are miserable to even try and get rid of. I just let my nerite lay them....

I don't understand, are you feeding your betta shrimp? Or just saying that you will have shrimp if the betta ignores them? All bettas eat dwarf shrimp, if the shrimp do not have adequate cover. You will need to do some serious planting of that tank to keep dwarf shrimp numbers alive.

EDIT: I like your tank though :) feels fresh.

basically i've kept fish and shrimp long enough to know that if you keep fish and shrimp together your gonna lose shrimps. and i'll be adding some ground gover like hairgrass or clover or dwarf tears etc. in clumps. but turethfully those fake plants give alot of cover for the ghosts or red shrimps.

and this tank is dedicated to the betta so if he eats the shrimp its ok. if i can get a colony to breed in the tank awesome *amano neo/cardina dwarf ghost * but if they dont thats ok too. in fact if he enjoys eating them i'd happily set up a shrimp breeding tank to keep a visually apealing / practical clean up crew. and ghost shrimp are 49cent feeder stock in most stores.

with that said no i don't plan on trying to make him live off of them or any thing like that. more along the lines of i know he will eat some and thats ok.

also thanks for saying you like the tank. :)

and yeah i'm still looking for a critter that will clean the eggs but none are showing up soi'm prolly gonna skip them on the stock list.

I set up a 46 bow at my sister's when I was in the process of moving and needed a temp home for my fish. Nerites were recommended for the sudden algae problem, and they promptly laid eggs all over the tank and decorations. After 2 years in the tank, the nerite eggs are still holding fast, just a little discolored.

I have tried scrubbing them off decorations, and was more successful at scrubbing the paint off the decorations. There have been 3 types of plecos (clown, rubber lip, and bristlenose) in the tank too, and none of them seem interested in eating nerite eggs. I also see an abundance of nerite eggs in the tanks at work.

As for shrimp, I had a thriving colony of ghost shrimp in my planted 29g that houses gambusia and a pair of BNs. I started getting alarmingly high nitrate readings, so bumped up the amount and volume of water changes in order to drop the nitrates. In the process, I ended up raising the pH, and have not been able to keep shrimp in that tank - at least not in the numbers I once had. And I've bought replacement shrimp from three different sources.

You mentioned "the purple and green" zebra danios. Did you mean GloFish danios? I had some once, and boy were they mean! The GloFish tetras aren't so obnoxious, but they can and will fight back if picked on. My sis has them, and when the betta flared at one, the green "tank boss" immediately went after the betta. They get along now.

yeah i meant the glo fish danio's and in the joint tank i had with an ex we found that the glo barbs were much more prone to be picked on by thier non gmo barb shoal mates than to take the roll of tank boss.

the danio's are actually super chill from glow but the tetras and the glo barbs get finnecky when not in a proper shoal or in a tank that is too short. and actually that is why i went with a 20 l it's foot print is better for the school of danio's and in a couple of yearsbetter for the glass cat black water. also it's shallower so better for oxygen and current. any yes i've given the betta spots to chill out of the current so he only plays in current when he wants.

as far as the shrimps go i've been a long time keeper of shrimp *even had a breeding colony of ghost shrimp in a brackish tank with goby and mollies*

basically i don't need any snails but... thier shells look cool and wouuld look cool under the different lights. and most of my posts are just part of my research.
