Disaster in my nano reef last night. Heater malfunctioned and I got up this morning to find temp at 90!! I topped off the tank with room temp water, shut off power head and heater to slowly bring the temp down. Needless to say all livestock was in trouble. Shrimp died, clown fish seems ok, zoo's ok, but xenia is shriveled and sending out a cloud every now and then. Some of the tentacles are black. It is still pulsing though. Amonia 0, Ph 8.2, SG 1.024, trites trace, trates trace.

All paramiters had previously been fine. Are the elevations from whatever the xenia is sending out? Is it doomed?

Thanks for your help.

Continue to slowly bring the temp back down. Do not do it too quickly or your less hardy things will die. Xenia hate major temp fluctuations so worst case if they do shivel and die new ones generally come right back up. If you do it slow enough you may be okay tho. I have never heard of a white cloud coming out of them.
