Hi.

Just got some clown loaches (as well as my beautiful Royal Pleco... you cn tell im proud of it!) and they are acting quite 'funny'.

I know they are named after something that is supposed to be humorous, but im not sure their behaviour is normal...

They will lie at the bottom on the tank, in the sand and 'play dead'. They will stop moving and remain very still.

If i move to get a closer look, they carry on going about their daily business and swim around happily.

Are my loaches nearly really dead? or are they comedy geniuses?

Seriously I am worried... someone shed some light..

Thanks

Pretty common for them to play dead, IMO. How many did you get and for what size tank?

Common behaviour for them.

I got 3 of them. They are in a 125l tank. They are slightly disturbing in their behaviour. Its like they are sleeping on the bottom of the tank. So strange!

I think they are comedy geniuses then! lol!!!!

Slow growing fish....antics are more entertaining in large groups....you should be good for a couple of yrs before a larger tank is needed...like a 6 footer.

They're just clowning around.

I used to have yoyo loaches. More than once I got a net outnto fish out a "dead" one. They'd often lay on their sides like they were dead!

Me too. Drove me crazy. They would be belly up on the bottom or in a plant, not moving, & I'm going "oh no!" and they wouldn't move till I touched them with a net to take them out. Then they acted like "What? I'm trying to take a nap!"
