I'm guessing they're pretty useless, but I wanted to see what other folks had to say. I've got a 20 gal planted tank, will likely move up to a 125 gal within 6 months, will then get a C02 kit.

My LFS is dead-set on getting me to buy CO2 tablets that you toss in the water to fizz. It doesn't seem to me that they would produce fine enough bubbles or that the bubbles would stay suspended long enough to do any good. Is the LFS rep right in saying they're better than nothing, or am I right in assuming it's a total waste of time and money?

there's a little $15 set-up that holds the bubbles they should also sell, i have one, it works fine, but i'm going to build a DIY set-up very soon...works better and is more cost effective...

Co2

Google DIY CO2 and build your own generator. Virtually no cost and better than the fizzies! And,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the supplies to run the DIY are likely cheaper than the fizzies. If you go DIY, be sure to use a heardy yeast such as brewers yeast or a champaign yeast. They will perform longer than most ordinary yeasts.
Cheers;

I'll be getting a CO2 tank with regulator etc for the big tank (150 gallon--we'll be ordering it this week--yeehawww!), and I'm not too worried about the 20 right now as the plants I have are doing great.

I was more wondering if anyone had any actual info on whether the tabs do anything beneficial at all out of curiousity about the product being pushed.

I'm not inclined to go with the yeastie-beastie setups as I'd prefer to be able to have more control over the amount and consistency of C02 going into the tank. We've budgeted roughly 3k for this complete tank set up
and I've learned to pay big for the best tech up front rather than waste
money upgrading over and over.
