CO2 Question

How do you put the co2 directly into the canister filter intake? I have a rena xp3 and i am looking into getting the pressurized co2 system.

Place the CO2 line into the intake on the filter.

Naps,

The best thing about the pressurized system is that once you get it going there is nothing to do. I have mine plugged in with the the lights so the CO2 shuts off with the lights. I got everything plugged in 3 months ago and have not had to mess with it other than the occasional peek to make sure the tank pressure is OK. With the home brew kits you have to watch things all the time.

It is a tad more expensive to get started but if you plan on staying with the planted tanks for years it pay-off.

Yeah that's what I'll do then. I'll start saving up for a whole system and do it all right one time down the road. Now that I have live plants that's all I want and I think it will be worth the investment.
Where did you get your CO2 tank in the Houston area???( i see you live by me, I actually live in Nassau Bay by NASA)

I have a fully planted 75g with clown loaches. The only plants I ever had a problem with were small grasses for a foreground. The clowns will never give it a chance to root (at least mine won't). My plants include:

Wisteria
Ludwigia
Various Crypts
Cabomba
Red Tiger Lotus
Anubius

They never get eaten.

As for CO2, about 3 months ago I was in you exact position. I didn't want to spend the money for pressurized. Boy, am I glad I did. The plants are so much healthier and in the long run I'm now saving money. It's been 3 months and I still haven't had to refill my tank. Good luck with which ever method you choose.

I found mine on Ebay. Took several months before I found one at the price I wanted. I kept reading about finding them at local places for cheap but I never found any of those deals. I got lucky and got a 10lb on Ebay for about $56.00 once it was shipped.
One thing to remember is it does not have to be real fancy. When you buy CO2 from the gas stores you are given a bottle and they take yours. Just make sure the tank you buy has a recent inspection.

I am sorry, I am not picturing this. Do you mean cut a hold into the intake tubing of the Rena Filter and place the Co2 line into the hole and then seal it up with aquarium sealent?

I just squeezed the tubing between the spaces in the strainer where the water goes in but keeps from sucking fish up.
