CO2 Question

So in setting up my new 80g tank I was thinking I really want to use CO2, but I really don't have a clue about it. I'm going to have 4 compact flourescent 65 w lights (2)12,000k and (2)6,700K. So with that much light I think I should put it to use and have a nicely planted tank with CO2 and here lies the problem....

Or should I go for a tank of CO2 and get a different set up going all together?? Which will be the best, without costing a TON of money???
 
You can make your own diy system just need some 2 liter bottles some hose sugar, yeast, baking powder and water and a powerhead to diffuse the bubbles. That Turbo CO2 Bio System is just a diy system with a powerhead there is a lot of info on fourms on how to make your own co2 mix for 80g tanks. Too start i would try diy system then go with a pressurized system, i just got the red star pro paintball system 130$ no more making the co2 :)....
 
You're going to be much happier going with a pressurized CO2 system. In the long run they're cheaper than DIY and in the short and long term pressurized is way easier and way more consistant.

Here's what I just paid a short time ago:

CO2 regulator and pH controller - $190
10lb CO2 tank - $75
CO2 resistant airline tubing - cheap
CO2 reactor - N/A (goes into my canister filter intake)
Filling up the CO2 tank every 6 months or so - $10

Really when you're talking about a tank your size, pressurized CO2 is not too big of an investment.

Yeah I know that the 12,000K aren't the best for plants , but the lights came with it and I want to atleast try them out. I'm buying (2) 6,700K CF lights to replace the actinic ones.

I also thought that compact flourescent light are much stronger than normal flourescent, so I should have more than 2 watts per gallon, correct?????

Also I'm going to be putting clown loaches in this tank and I know that they like to eat plants, so does anyone know of some good plants that the clowns won't eat that would do well in this set up????

You can use any of the strong rooted plants, like Swords, Anubias, Vals with clown loaches. You just have to put them in the tank for 4-8 weeks before any fish so they develop a good healthy root system.

I agree, you will be much happier with a decent pressurized system that a Yeast based system.
