I got a nice little coffee and cream pleco at an auction yesterday and I thought it was different than what I am now reading about it. So I came here to get some clarification. How big will this pleco get? About what size tank should he be in? I am seeing the word aggressive alot, how aggressive exactly will he get? Lastly is there anything special I should do to take care of him? Hope to get my facts straightened around. Hope to hear something soon!

The L number L160(or L096) is correct. It does have a scientific name: Pseudacanthicus spinosus. The max size is correct. The Pseudacanthicus are carnivorous, but not predatory.

If it was an F1, it likely came from Pseudasmart on planetcatfish. I have a few of his F1s. He told me they are very melllow, and my much more limited experience keeping them that seems to back it up. I have kept one with medium sized gold nuggets with out any issues.

They probably like their temperature on the higher end and over-filtering would be a good idea. Feeding NLS is a good option for them because it has a high protein content.

would this be okay with african cichlids?

What would be the worth of one that is 2 or so inches? ( what to see if i paid to much for him)

You probably can do a small one in an African Cichlid tanks with moderate water parameters and aggression. I think mild haps and peacocks and the most peaceful mbuna should not have issues. Rowdier mbunas would have a couple issues, they may pick on the pleco and a lot should have a more vegetarian diet.

It is a very hard fish to put a price tag on. In an auction setting they tend to go for a steal in my experience. The Pseudacanthicus tend to have high prices, but this is one of the generally more reasonably priced ones.

I know they run between 100-200 depending on size for wild caught ones. People tend to mistake the actual meaning of being aggressive with being territorial. I own 3 of these guys and they can become territorial with each other but keep to themselves with even the other pleco's in the tank.
