Collecting Rocks?

Rocks to try: Jasper (nice red color), polished petrified wood, various colors of crystal. Check out local mineral-selling stores (for example, in Albuquerque, Mama's Minerals). I'd avoid anything found on the ground (i.e., near parking lots, streets) due to air, water, land pollution concerns.

POLISHED PETRIFIED WOOD...................That is the best idea I have heard of yet for a freshwater tank.......Probally saltwater too. As far as finding in ground what about soaking a day or two in a 50/50 mix of water and bleach. Then soaking a few weeks changing the water almost everyday. I have done this and I dont think it caused any problems.........................POLISHED PETRIFIED WOOD What a idea. I naver would of thought of that.......However I gotta be honest being a middle aged male I have woke up with it a few times :o :o :o

I have a chunk of obsidian my dad found in the desert in mine. He find's petrified wood and giant petrified oyster shells out there as well.

One piece he has is about 700lbs, a little too big for my 20 gallon I think...
