Colonial Hydroid Infestation

I have a minor problem with colonial hydroids. In a previous post I was told that once nutrient level decreased, the hydroids would go away. The specific nutrients in question were not mentioned and I was wondering what nutrients I should be monitoring.

Also, is there another way to ensure their demise? Manual removal hasn't really worked in the past.

The hydroids seem to be colonizing the upper rocks of my tank. Is there a reason for this localized spreading? Could I be having flow issues?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks. :thm:

i had them also, it seemed as though they wouldnt never die off but within a couple weeks they were gone, don't worry about them they are harmless andd they will soon go away

Actually, flow could allow them to grow faster. Specifically, they will like phosphate, nitrate, and dissolved organic carbon. However, lots of organic particulates floating around in the water are also a recipe for their growth, as well as adequate light (in some cases, as some species are photosynthetic).

maybe direct the flow in a diferent direction, or even put somthing over the individual colonies to block light. either way around they probably wont last more than a few weeks
