colorless shrimp??

my cherries have no color
well, most of them, a few have saddles and they are all still quite small
5.5 gal planted with rocket kilies otos and snails
what could be the problem?
 
how long have you had them?
 
Major reasons for no color

  1. Settling in
  2. Stress - Maybe your Killies are causing it
  3. Poor color strain
  4. Age - Older they are the more color they will develop
  5. Decor - Darker the decor and more planted the more color they seem to have
  6. Water conditions not being prime for them
 
ive had some of them for about a week and some of them for like a month

the rocket killies dont seem to bother them much and they look like theyre settled they come out to eat and stuff

I think it's probably because they're still settling in and are young. How are your water params?
 
why did you add the buffer. Do you know about ammonia or nitrite?
 
Never had killies.

If your shrimp are acting OK, I'd just give them a little more time to get settled, grow up a little and color up. I really don't know what the best pH is for shrimp - mine all live at about 8 and seem happy.
 
as a whole, fish generally do better with stable pH. mucking with it can cause issues with the stability of your water and can cause stress for your fish and shrimp.

its a lot easier to keep shrimp by themselves. if for no other reason than most baby shrimp will become tasty snacks for your fish.

as mentioned before, young cherry shrimp tend to be pretty blah. they also dont seem to show much color when kept in less than ideal conditions.

if you really want help, you really need to put up your parameters: pH, gh, temp, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings. sometimes you think things are ok when they arent.
