My Tin Foil has started to loose its shinyness?

It seems to have dulled to a mat white colour, and it apears when the light catches it, its scales are missing. There is no sign of mites or ticks and the white is definetly not cotton wool like.

I have taken it out and put it into my hospital tank, but have no idea what I should be treating it for?

All other fish in the tank are OK!

48"x15"x18" Tank
pH 7.4
Ammonia 0.25
Nitrate and Nitrite are OK
20% Water Changes weekly

do some water changes.. get ur ammonia level to 0

what do u mean that nitrites and nitrates are ok? pls give the exact no.

tinfoil barbs can be sensitive to ammonia, it might be stressed out, tinfoil barbs become pale when they are stressed out

just my opinion :)

As was already indicated, we need to know what your nitrite and nitrate readings are. Is this tank cycled?

Also -- tinfoil barbs, as with all barbs, are schooling fish that need to be in groups of 6 or more. They grow very quickly and reach sizes of 14" and are very active fish.

Your tank is going to be much too small for even one of them. If you are not going to upgrade to a much larger tank, please consider taking him back.

We found our tin foils losing scales at one point...and after watching what was going on, it seemed that a distachodis was the culprit....he'd school with them, all friendly, and....wham! pick off a scale! Very sneaky....
Maybe something in your tank is also doing that....could be worth checking out.
