What type of Cichlids can I get to occupy a currently empty 10gal tank?

Or is 10 gal too small for a few of them?

I'm not an expert a choices for small tanks, but maybe a couple shell dwelling cichlids? Correct me if I'm wrong

Looks like i'll be setting up my 20gal instead, found a stand that would be able to hold the weight.

What is your water like?

If hard water choose shellies.Not the most colorful(L.ocellatus"gold" is about the most colorful) but the coolest little fish you can find. I love mine. A small colony or a trio would do well in a 20g.

If soft water, choose dwarf cichlids. They are very colorful. Rams,Kribs, Apisto. caucatuoids(sp?) are a few of the more common ones that would work well.

What are the dimensions of a 20g?

A pair of J. transcriptus could also go in there, or maybe ~3 N. leleupi.


Kribs are the best option, they can tolerate the more mild rift lake conditions, like water with a pH of 8 and a gH of 14.

I would definitely not recommend putting Kribs in a 10 gallon. Even a 20 gallon long can give problems.

The dimensions of tank are: 62x32x40 (24.5"x15.5"x12.5")

Water I have not tested yet, I still need to clean the tank out. Just finshed putting together the stand I bought.
