in aquarium, they can reach anywhere between 18 and 24 inches if provided adequate space..... we're talking 100 gallon tank. I put an 18 incher in a 75 gallon and it barely cut it...
Yeah, I have one that is in a 35 gallon.
He has grown from 4 inches when he was given to me, and is now over 6 from nose to fin, he is soon going to be given to a friend who can use him in a 55 then he will be traded.
I really need to stop taking everones fish that are un-able to fit in their tanks :\ .
This is a cut n paste from the "Species Profiles" here on this board:
This is not an active fish and thus the aquarium need not be the usual size for a fish that grows up to 18 inches in length, though the largest tank possible is appreciated.
What exactly is the author trying to say?
If the tank is somewhat big, the Plec will do ok as it's not an active fish?
Reason I ask, just put a 4" Plec in my 29 gallon Jack and Parrot tank; algae was getting bad. Overnight a lot is gone...
36" is far from unheard of...ask anyone near the canals in Florida. Biggest that I have seen in home aquaria were in the 24"-30" range...still a monstrous fish.
