I have a community tank (Cherry Barbs, Mollies, Danios (giant & zebra) and Scissortail Rasbora)....my concern is cleaning the tank.

My barbs and mollies have babies (yipee...I am so happy) :D ...how can I keep the tank clean, especially levels proper without sucking up the babies?

HELP!

I moved my baby fish to a different tank untill they were big enough not to worry about, but you could try wrapping netting material over the hose so they wont get sucked in.

Welcome to the A.C. forum!

Edit: fixed spelling.

Cleaning

I like the idea about a screen over the tube when cleaning, but its possible that it could also block out some of what you are wanting to remove from the tank. I think if you are careful even the baby fish will move away from the tube as you are cleaning. That is don't rush it and take your time and you should be fine.

Thanks...I will have to give that a try...last time I used the vacuum...I was trying my best to be very observant and cautious....luckily enough I say a baby in there and was able to shut off the flow before it got caught up....whewh!

Thanks for the welcome...I look forward to many interesting conversations.

FYI - today I did go out and purchase a "Reverse Flow" powerhead for my UGF...so I hope that will help keep the tank pretty clean as well.

welcome from me as well, It's always good to see more people from Columbus. Reverse flow will do wonders for your tank, I am a huge fan of these systems, many people dog them, but I have had great luck just make sure you stick a good sponge on the intake
