Compatability questions: rams, rummies...

Blue rams in general (Ramirezi) are more sensitive to water than the Bolivian(Altispinosa).
they are also kept in much different water than the Bolivian.
tho both thrive in nuetral to slightly acidic pH. the Blue ram is best kept in low pH , low ntrates and warm water. they pair up well with Discus..which also thrive in similar water .
temp for this species is recommended at 84f. water with tannins or peat work well. yes you can keep them in a higher pH but I did say 'Thrive'.
the bolivian has a much broader range on pH and temperature temp from 72-79 ph 6-7.8
they are usually more hardy.tho lacking somewhat in color compared to the Blue..many pictures you see of Bolivian rams do not do the species justice in color..they have vibrant colors especially when in the spawn mode. the species is also slightly larger than the blue.
both species to well in community tanks but when considering the blue you must also consider the parameters of the water..primarily the temp which may limit some of the choices.
I like the bolivian rams. and keep them with other cichlids(angels , keyholes and several tetras black neons and cardinals.)

I personally do not think the temp has to be that high for blue rams...I have mine at 79 and have them with zebra danios, corys, ottos, and swordtails...they are doing great. I also do not agree that pH plays a large part in deciding as they will most likely be locally bought, with similar water. I have mine at a closer to neutral but still slightly alkaline pH...JMO

I think both are great and would do just fine in your tanks! :)
