I was cleaning the tank out today and usually the fish swim away from my hand especially the compressiceps they are kinda timid compared to some of the others. Well today one of the compressiceps bit me! It didn't let go right away either, I pulled my hand about 8 inches closer to the surface before it let get. I have 4 of them, I think they are gold head if I remember correctly or if that's even an option. lol.
It's been hanging out in front of a big piece of lace rock and I've noticed it chasing the other fish away from that area. I grabbed a flashlight and shined into a cavity on the lace rock and there are a bunch of eggs in there. My girfreind estimates 50 but I'm not sure. Sometimes the eggs move by themselves. Sometimes the compressiscep will put its head all the way into the cavity with the eggs. What is she doing? She's not eating them is she? I'd like to raise the fry. I already have 2 fry tanks going, I really don't want a third but my only other choice is mix them with 2 month and 1 month old blue ahlis, I'm guessing that's probably not a good idea. Just looking for some suggestions here. Should I wait until they are free swimming then tried to net them out? I hope the mom isn't / doesn't eat them. I could grab the hole piece of lace rock out of there with the eggs attached too but then I don't know what I'd do. I got these compressisceps in July of 07, by that time they were already full grown so I have no idea how old they are. This is the first time since I've had them that they've laid eggs. Or there was possibley one other time but I didnt net the fry out, I'm not actually for sure what those were. What does everyone think?
