Ok, I really hope this doesnt sound to stupid and makes sense....OK...my tank is next to my window in my room and doesnt have a hood. My 4 48" bubls just kinda hang ova the tank...so the problem is this, with these bulbs it evaps alot of water and with it being next to my window, i think that its causing condensation on the window which in the is causing mold....or so i think...thats my question could the water be evaping and causing the window to build on w/ condensation? with this much wattage do i need a lens hood that catches this condensation? is this even what causing it?! PARADOX! if yuo guys can let me know whatcha think

uhh i cant really comment on the condensation on ur window being caused by ur tank lights, but i would deff by a glass top for ur tank to protect the lights from condensation. u could alway move ur tank away from the window so tht u dont have to wrry bout it......whts the temp in the room? and maybe u could just dry the walls to help keep the mold down....strange problem:joe:

why my friend u need a glass cover to stop condensation on ur lights....the water will collect on the cover and not on ur sensitive electrical bits, which could cause fire or electircal short.

have a open tank and never had any problems with that.

maybe putting a fan that moved the air around. the only have i have condensation built up on my window is when its really cold outside.

I have the same issue in my fish room every winter since the tanks increase the humidity in the room. I actually get ice forming inside the windows. The best thing to do is wipe the window glass down with bleach or another disinfectant every so often to prevent the mildew/mold from forming. Either that, or get a dehumidifier for the room (which would increase the evaporation on your tank, but help with the condensation).
