Hi there, I have a constipated betta fish. At first the aquarium place thought it was a tumor or constipation, but I think he really is just constipated. I have heard suggestions of putting a pea in the bowl, but that didn't work. Any other thoughts? I should add he's been like this for about a month.

If you put a pea in there, you have to remove the shell. The point of the pea is....vegetable matter is full of fiber. If he won't eat a shelled pea, try other veggie stuff....algae tabs maybe. Minimize his normal food (do not overfeed) and eventually he will eat the veggies.... hungry is hungry.

IME, constipated fish don't eat very often...

One tablespoon of epsoms salt per 5-10g of water should clear him up in no time. If it doesn't, you can redose in 4 hours.

Using a pea always worked for me. If you try it again, just make sure to pop it out of the shell, and just drop in a tiny piece right where he can see it. Also don't feed him for at least a few days. If he's constipated that should give him some time
