Converting the Swamp into an African Tank

Nice tank. What made you change?

That looks awsome , really clean :grinyes:

nice tank ! love the trets - one of my favourite tangs. that little red aulonocara will also be a seriously nice fish when he gets a bit of size; I've had a couple of them.

Did you see the before pic? I hated the tank. Couldn't do much with it.

A buddy of mine has a 225 with some wild caught Fronts and some Labs. He started adding a few Peacocks. he would send me pics and I started doing some research and then I was hooked. My wife loves it now too.

Oh, and here's a couple of pics of my buddy's tank I mentioned

Are you sure he's a he? I'm worried that it's a female...I'll give it some time. Doing some major feedings and major water changes to add some size to these guys...

ETA I thought you were talking about a Red Peacock I bought that has yet to color up, but then I realized that I didn't have any pics of that one. So you are talking about this little guy that got his dorsal fin shredded. I'm not happy about it at all..

On a positive note I did make some additions. J. Marleri on sale buy 1 get 1 free. And a little clown pleco. On sale as well at another LFS. I also put some java fern on and attached it to the wood with rubber bands. Once it takes hold I'll cut the rubber bands....

very nice tank. take a peek at mine please.

Looks great!

OK, so I was yanking some plants out of my overplanted 55 (see my avatar) because literally that large angel on the right could barely swim more than a couple of inches. There were some really nice looking Crypt Wendti that was coming up so I decided to put those in the 110 as well. Get a load of the roots on these bad boys. The first pic is the roots, the second is a clump of shorter crypts bunched together in front and then a pic of the tallest one bunch in the back right and the final pic is a nice front shot of the tank.

my big Kenyii was no more than 2 inches away supervising the project the whole time. I watched him take an entire small leafe into his mouth and was sure it was about to be salad. Nope. Guess he didn't like the taste. If any of the roots were exposed he would try to take a chunk of them as well. With sand though it is very easy to just push an exposed root down into the substrate without hurting it. I added root tabs near where I planted these as well since the substrate doesn't have much in terms of nutrients for them just yet.
