Mine are out a lot too, well 3 or 4 of 6. Mine like floating plants & dirty look me when I reach in, they may or may not move for a while.
I'm hoping to get some p.meyersi after I set up a 40 long. I think they're called giant kuhlis often & have thinner yellow/orange bands, not sure of the wrap around. Mine are either kuhli or semicincta, pinkish & brown. Can't have too many loaches
Keep an eye out, sometimes even chains get different fish in. Sorry you have such a sucky lfs, still a couple good ones here.
