maybe if you use a little rubber to isolate any vibrations from the wood you would have less noise out of it. Still would have the air noise but that might restrict it to that.

I would still recomend as previously stated, use a 80mm DC fan, you can fine many that desinged to run very quiet. And all you have to do is find an old DC charger of some sort to run it... and if you really want, you can buy a variable volt DC chager from walmart for $8, and then you could even adjust the speed of the fan by what voltage you run it at.
I beleive I have an 80mm dc fan. I used a 12 volt charger to power it and it is loud enough to annoy people I think. Maybe If I could reduce the speed it spins and use some rubber it would help

Can I use an old DC charger to run a DC fan? Probably obvious I know, but better safe than sorry. I went to a discout electronic supply store the other day and found that the DC fans are cheaper and in far greater supply. And Slip says they're quieter. Besides, I have a boatload of old chargers I don't use anymore in the basement (cellar, for those south of the Mason-Dixon line).
As long as they are ~5 volts to 12 volts they will work to power DC fans. Some fans will not reliably start at 5 volts, so you may needa 7 volt adapater instead.
They should also have enough amperage to run the fans, but nearly every dc adapter Ive ever seen has plenty.
