copper colored spots

Yesterday when I pulled my media bag of carbon out of my filter it had copper colored spots on it. What could has caused it? I'm lost....

sounds rather stupid, but it looks like rust to me....

Now that I think about it, it did feel a little like rust but very fine. The bag itself I honestly don't know what it's made of but I would guess nylon. But I just don't understand how it could be rust. It was in my canister filter and never came across this before. I change my carbon every 3 weeks and was not there last time.

would toss the bags and then look for rusty equipment then.
