Coralife 48" T5 light

Just picked up a 48" long, low profile light strip that uses two T5 flourescents. One is a blue colour and the other is white. Its pretty **** bright for being so skinny and small. Its as strong as two full size 48" bulbs but less power usage.

Anyone have any experience with these? I plan to use only one of these for a 120 gallon tank.I just have to find a way to suspend it just over the tank. I dont want it resting on the glass. Incase somehow the glass breaks, I dont want a light to go crashing into the tank. Its 48" wide and the tank is 60" wide. I was going to use a chain on each end and suspend it to the ceiling maybe...

If you are considering plants, lose the blue one and replace it with a 6700K range T5. The blue actinics are for reef tanks.

Nothing wrong with ceiling lights. I'm having my husband suspend mine so I don't have to remove it every time I clean the tank thoroughly.

I just wish I could suspend the lights on my other 75g, but it's in the living room and the ceiling is 20 feet in the air. Now *that* would look goofy

I have two of those fixtures on my 29g. They are very lightweight. I wouldn't worry about them being heavy enough to crash through your glass.

I got a 36" fixture for my 33gal from Coralife, love it. As far as suspending it from the ceiling goes, I would guess that you'd have a lot of wasted light depending it on how far off the tank it is. Mine has a couple of extendable arms that reach out about 4" on either side. a 48" fixture might have longer arms allowing you to support the weight of the light on the side of the tank

Looks like the extending arms on the side are the same length for all the sizes. As far as suspending it. I think I'll hold it about 6" above the tank. Any wasted light might be good lighting for the room This sucker is pretty bright.
