I currently took down my salt water setup to just stick with fresh water, and the tank is currently stocked with a coralife 50/50 96 watt light. It's specific for salt water, but will this work with my freshwater fish?

Thanks.

Yes, fish don't really care about the light spectrum. You may have some algae issues with that light, however....depending on the size of your tank and whether or not you have live plants/co2, etc.

As stated above the fish arent really particulair about the light spectrum, However if you are planning on a planted tank, I would suggest getting a regular daylight (6500k) bulb for that fixture.
