Coralife HOB Super Skimmer 65G

I put the dechlorinator in while I was making the RODI water and mixing the salt. The tank was running with this water for at least a week before I set up the protein skimmer.

My cycle will be complete any day now, after which I will be doing a 60+% water change. I guess I'll skip the dechlorinator and see if that solves the problem.

i was also told that if you use any kind of soap in a tank..that will stop a skimmer from working..cause they say you can't really get the soap residue out..i know i mis spelled residue..sorry...

Well last night my cycle completed! I did a 50+% water change, and when I plugged the skimmer back in, it acted normal! I could actually set the level by turning the knob. It was really late and I didn't have time to get it dialed in and watch it for a while so I unplugged it for the night.

Today I wake up, plug it back in, and it's back to the way it used to be. Overflows almost instantly no matter what the dial is set to :swear:

Did you call Coralife to get the adjustment valve for the pump? Just running it for a few minutes at a time is not going to break it in.

I had it running for three days with it draining back into the tank.

i don't think you can get a adjustment valve cause the guy at my lfs tried to get me one..for some reason they use to put them on the older skimmers...the new ones don't have them..but he tried to get me one and they refused to give me one...

iAlso, try sliding the skimmer body on the mounting ring up or down and slide the basket up or down.

I think this is the trick that finally did it! I moved it up about 1.5" and the flow seems to be controllable now, with very few microbubbles.

I can't believe that this isn't mentioned in the instructions anywhere, it's practically a second adjustment dial!

Melissa and Dekz,

In case you missed it. I work for Coralife and the valves are indeed available. All you have to do is call or email Coralife tech support and they will send you one. When the skimmers were upgraded the pumps were changed and the new pump did not have an adjustment valve included. This was later added (a new valve had to be created from scratch) and is now included with new skimmers.

And yes raising the skimmer will increase the head pressure, reducing water flow and improving the drain rate so yes it will work but it is not an ideal solution and is not in the instructions for this reason.

Thanks for the help so far guys!

Now that the skimmer is working really well, the only problem is that I am still getting some microbubbles. Nowhere near what it used to be, but enough that I would like to get rid of them. Any ideas?
