Cories no longer eating algae wafers.

I've had albino cories for a year now. They had no problem eating Hikari algae wafers. They would gladly consume them as soon as they touched bottom and even my betta would sneak in a bite when he could. I ran out of the tiny wafers I used to buy. I went to the LFS to pick up more but they no longer carry the size I would normally buy. I bought a bag of bigger sized wafers which was still Hikari, as I figured it was a safe bet.

No one is eating them! Every time I dunk one of these fat wafers in the tank, it falls apart and goes uneaten. Does Hikari formulate different sizes with different ingredients? The wafers I used to buy had a cories on the packaging. This bag has a pleco on it. Are these wafers not meant for them? I'm confused and I hope someone out there knows what I'm talking about. Any assistance or recommendations for other wafer brands is appreciated.

Corys don't eat algae (maybe a little?) so I'm guessing that's why they don't like the algae wafers. Algae eaters (bristlenoses, Otos) prefer the algae wafers while corys or omnivores prefer the regular wafers (the one that has the Cory picture). I'm not sure if there is a big difference in the ingredients (shrimp flavor?) but I think you should just stick with the Cory wafers instead of the algae ones.

Healthy corys should eat any food fallen to the bottom. I hope they are having no health problem. I prefer New Life Spectrum wafers to Hikari wafers. NLS wafers become soft much faster than Hikari.

P.S. All my corys eat Hikari algae wafers.

Hikari algae wafers have fish meal as the first ingredient, I believe, so even though they are supposed to be for algae eating fish (plecos, otos, etc.) they should be consumed by all fish that are willing to eat from the bottom. Have you checked the exp date? Maybe the package is stale?

Worse comes to worse, you could probably trade with someone on here :) My cories go a little hungry, I feed them every other day (sometimes even go a couple days without giving them their own food) so they eagerly eat anything I give them. They will eat any pellets that sink to the bottom, along with any brand of algae wafer (even Wardley), so maybe yours just need to fast a bit? Or perhaps they are getting enough to eat scavenging?

My cories are more than willing to eat anything. They once tried to eat an exo-skeleton of my shrimp!

Hmm, perhaps the wafers are stale?

I dropped in some shrimp pellets and they swarmed them almost immediately.

They needed more protein to begin with, maybe they went on strike cause they saw those shrimp pellets laying around.. and well, they wanted some..
