corraline algae in a fw tank

if it leaks all your fish would be....fish sticks..

to remove the bits of coraline algae you should scrub in vinigar then wash thouroughly.

As for bleech I wouldnt use it to clean anything in your tank unless you really really really clean it as this can seriously hurt your fish (bleech can beither add acid to your tank or huge amounts of Ammonia.

If you leave both types of algae on the equipment they will die in frsh water releasing toxins and nutrients into the water. So depending on how much algae is left on there depends on how much your tank will be contaminted. You could always leave it for a few weeks and let it die naturally before you put any fish in.

The use of a wire brush however in your intake and output tubes will get rid of most of it and you can rince in boiling hot water.

Bleach is more than fine to use for cleaning the tank and accessories. Make sure you rinse it well and then rinse it again with a very strong solution of water + dechlorinator. The dechlorinator will neutralize any left-over bleach.

I doubt coraline aglae will do any harm in a FW tank. From what I've read thus far, coraline algae does need Ca and there's not that much in tap water, nor are there marine salts. Unless you have plants and are supplementing, most likely the algae will just die off.

pbrack:
Btw, a decrease in Ca will decrease the hardness, not increase it.
