Hey, I recently got a couple of lovely emerald cory cats. When they ate some of the thawed frozen bloodworms that made it to the bottom, I saw them just go in mouth and straight out gills. What's up with that? Never noticed it with the peppers or arched cats. They actually couldn't eat them! Any ideas out there? Thanks!

Rosita, I've had this happen before in some of my fishies, too. Don't worry, it probably looks a lot worse than it is for them.

I found that by chasing them a little with the net, they were able to dislodge the food on their own. I was actually trying to net the fish to remove it by hand, but in that process she managed to lose it, either by swallowing it or it just came out. I think scaring her a little and forcing her to breathe harder or take deeper breaths was all that was needed :)

Good luck!

oh, whew, thanks paula!! these guys are so neat---really active, all over the place, bursting with personality! onward. . . . :sim:

I've seen the same thing happen with my cories too. It doesn't seem to be harmful or anything to them. They do this a few times with a bloodworm and then they seem to just swallow it. =S
