i have a 20 uk gallon tank of tanganyikan cichlids
in my LFS i saw a Neolamprologus tretocephalus (5 bar ciclid)
could i keep this in my tank, the shop owner says yes...but hey, what do thay know.
any help ..thanks

well how many fish are already in the tank and what are they. what is the filtration on the tank?

i have 3 shell dwellers,a pair of neolamprologus fasciatus,1 lelupi and 3 rainbow fish
my filter is a internal box on the side of the tank

uk gallons are different to usa gallons (united kingdom)

No, I think your tank is at it's max. Trets get on average of 6'', and they're decently bulky.

HTH

when you say maxed out.....are you talking about my filter not being albe to cope..or the fact that the fish will crowd each other?

There are a lot of fish in there. You will need a bigger tank. Your lelupui dosen't terrorize your shellies?

by saying maxed out we mean your maxed out in total fish and also as the fish get bigger the filter's bioload my become too much for the filtration in it. IT may need to be upgraded in the future, but if you do frequent water changes and keep an eye on the water parameters (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, etc.)
But you are overstocked in that tank for your filtration.

yeah i see what yr saying.....but in that case, when people cram and over stock the fish load, to keep the aggression down, like in mumba tanks..isnt that being cruel not giving the needed space.
i have territories for all my rock dwellin fish, the rainbows swim up the top.
