Could I use a tank that used to house rodents, for fish, if (and only if)....the following were true....

1) The tank was originally intended as an aquarium.
2) I cleaned the tank really well with bleach.
3) I resealed the tank.

This is just hypothetical....

Sure, no reason why not. I've switched tanks between mice and fish before. The resealing is the main thing; rodents can be hard on silicone. Also be sure to check the upper rim; if it is too chewed up, your canopy and equipment may not fit properly.

Ah, crap. I forgot what they did...are doing...to the upper rim. They completely messed it up. I'm guessing you can't easily replace those things?

Hmm...I could try to avoid top equipment on those....ie....low tech, w/ sponge filter (shrimp tank). Maybe my mechanically boyfriend can at least smooth it out so it looks alright.

Thanks guys! I always hear/see people say you can NEVER use a tank that previously held a rodent...and I always thought it was strange. As long as you make sure it's clean and sealed properly....

My 20 had a rat in it for years before I bought it and turned it into an aquarium. Silicone was fine, so I was lucky and didn't have to replace anything. Just cleaned it realllllly well
