I have a 55g tank setup with a few plants, about 8 zebra danios, a CO2 ladder/canister setup. I am currently using a Rena 55 (thought this would be the best HOB filter available, yes/no/maybe?) which is setup on the far right side of the tank near the heater. I am contemplating geting a Koralia 1 to setup on the far left side of the tank near the CO2 ladder in order to create some current on that side of the tank as well.

My question is this, would it be a good idea to use the #1 or just get a nano? I am not trying to simulate a river so I don't want anything larger than the #1 I think, since I just want to get a little more circulation and get the CO2 circulated as well. Also, I am using pool filter sand that is covering earthgro, so I don't want to risk kicking up a lot of dirt (yes I know that means I just don't point it towards the sand).

As for my question about the Rena 55, does anyone have a picture of the water output of this filter? For some reason I think mine is making more noise than it should be, and the flow rate just doesn't seem very adequate for the size of it. I did make sure it is turned up to max even though there isn't much of a difference between max and min flow rate. I did make sure that it is sitting level with the back of the tank and the water level is as high as I dare set fill it in the tank.

thank you in advance

Don't know about the Rena 55, I am running a Fluval 305 choked down to about half the flow and a Koralia #1 for circulation. The #1 flow is directed towards a large rock to break up the linear flow and distribute my CO2 throughout the tank. Only been set up for a little over a month and this seems to work ok. The #1 flow was tough on plants prior to placing the rock. Might want to consider a canister to reduce surface turbulence and keep the CO2 up. JMO and good luck with the setup.

Okay...well i was hoping to get some drift wood and a rock formation at some point to put in there as well, so maybe I will wait to get one till then. From what I was reading in other people's posts I would probably put it about half way down and point it at a slight upward angle and maybe towards the back of the tank that way it wont be blowing straight on the plants.. Or I can always go for the nano so it would be quite as strong.

Thanks

I have a Koralia nano in my 55G planted and I think it's a little strong for some of my stem plants to handle. I don't know how much stronger a Koralia 1 would be, but I'm happy with the nano. I have no experience w/the Rena 55. Mine is also a topsoil tank w/black 3M Colorquartz. How do you like your plants in Earthgro? Did you mineralize it or just added it straight to the tank?

Alrighty, nano it is than since you have a 55 as well. I am trying the el natural tank (waldorf or something along those lines) and well I just think the Rena isn't doing its job with circulation the water so homefully this will help some.

Thank You
