I'm thinking of getting some CPO soon and I wanted to know how well they get along with other inverts? I've heard that they'll prey on shrimp and snails they find, but I've also heard they won't.... want to clear that up before adding them to a tank with RCS.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure they can be with shrimps but they may eat the babies? Idk wait for Rachel to reply.. Just want to say I did a water change and right after, my male CPO pinned down my female to mate

I don't mind them eating a few babies, it's a 38 gallon planted tank so I doubt they'll find all the babies, I just don't want them munching on the adults.

And congrats! crayfish porn... :nilly:

Mine don't bother shrimp or snails at all. I keep them with caridina shrimp, common snails, and apple snails as well as nerites and have not noticed any predation at all. Of bigger concern is ample space for them to avoid each other after molting or enough hiding spaces for them to be safe from fish after molting.

I never had any problems with my CPO with other inverts, and if it's heavily planted you especially don't have to worry.

IMO there's a good chance they'd try it, but I don't think you'd notice the slightest difference in your cherry population. I was keeping my CPOs with a juvi angel, and besides one incident when my bottom-swimming angel had a CPO hitchhiker on its bottom fin, they were great together. My CPOs were certainly the mellowest crayfish I've ever seen.

I have some CPO's that actively hunt down shrimps but most of my CPO's just leave them alone. The ones that hunt them seem to be mostly younger males. When they catch them they take a couple of bites and then toss the shrimp away so they aren't doing it because they are hungry. IDK why they do it. For the most part CPO's are very peaceful crays.
