I'm going to try to set up my very first (read as: big-time newbie) brackish tank. I'd like to have 2-3 fiddler/red claw crabs in a 5 gallon flat-back hex tank. I have land areas already built up for them and places to hide from each other if needed.

Water is going to be just below the "roof" of the tiki hut. I calculated it out to be about 2 gallons. I've gotten some advice on the other threads I have posted about care and maintainence of these crabs (including the acclimation of FW they are in at the lfs to SW), but I'm more concerned now about mixing water and maintaining a brackish tank. I plan on using my Stingray filter, already cycling on my 5 gallon tank. Will this be enough filtration for 2 gallons of water? Are w/c the same frequency as FW? I am going to get a hydrometer later this weekend...any specific brands that are better than others?? Can I premix a large quanity of water and keep it in sealed containers (like cleaned 2 liter pop bottles)? What ppm, or concentration of salt do you use?
