I was just adding some more ghosties and one of them surprising jumped out of the net and landed on the carpet. :swear: I quickly snatched her up (yes her...she's berried) and threw her in the tank. Anyone else have this happen? I'm sure they have. I'm just curious on her survival rate at this point.

I think I've had it happen with small shrimp. And with carpet, I rarely find them :( (the reason for "I think", I can never find them to be sure if I caught and dropped 'em or if they jumped back into the tank).

If you didn't squish her she will be fine.

I've had it happen ones with my Red Chery Shrimp. I accidentally grabbed her and she jumped out of the tank. I quickly picked her up and put her back. She seemed fine after all that mess.

She'll be all right as long as she wasn't exposed to the carpet for a long time.

It's happened to me, wasn't a huge deal. They can jump surprisingly high and far! I had a berried female that jumped and lived, she also managed to have the eggs hatch without any problems.

She sure surprised me. It was like she was launched out of a cannon. Just hope she will be fine.

Shrimp have a similar fight or flight reflex as crayfish. They quickly flick their tail which rapidly propels them through the water (backwards). Often, when they do this action in a net, it can cause them to be thrown from the net.

Because of the nature of their carapace, they take little or no damage, even if they fall from six feet onto concrete. Their mass is so small, and their exoskeleton flexible enough, that their bodies easily handle the impact. If, say a Mystery or Apple snail took the same fall, their shell would most likely crack, or worse. That's due to the fact that, unlike the carapace of a shrimp, there is no give. So be glad that snails move at a snails pace.

Good luck!
