I am new to ponds but would like to create a nice sized pond in my back yard.

I plan on creating a 11ft X 10ft pond. It will not be in a square shape, but thats the overall dimensions.

As I'm new to ponds and after some research, my question is in regards to the water flow.

I have a sump pump in my basement and the hose drains out of the basement and runs 250 yards or so to the back of my yard.

And thats where i plan to create the pond. Abot 250-300 yards away from the house. Close enough to see, but far enough away.

Will this water be ok to drain into the pond when it comes out and the overflow of the pond drain into a marsh area/ditch area to another part of the yard.

I'm just asking this because as of right now, without the pond, my sump pump drains enough that the middle of my back yard is basically a marsh/wetlands area. And the water starts to turn green and stink after awhile. And cutting the grass is a pain because my lawn tractor gets stuck in the mud or worse, sinks into the wetland area. And It's even worse when it rains.

I installed a longer drain, it used to be about 100 yards of pipe. That area sort of dried up over time, but now, the new marsh/wetland area is just further back and i dont feel like making extensions every time it gets too marshy.

ANd i was hoping i could use all that water to make the yard more pleasing to look at with a pond. Otherwise i guess i'll have to dig trenches, put the drain in there with stones around the whole yard.

I'm just wondering if the water coming from the sump pump would be good for the pond or not and if the overflow running into a marsh and ditch area beyond the pond would work? And how you would create that?

As I said, i'm new to ponds and just have a few questions.

There is a small creek/stream in the area, however it's down the street from me and not really feasible or close enough to connect it to my pond.
