Can anyone offer any options that wont cost me an arm and a leg? I'm looking into adopting a crestie and I want to see how much total it will cost.

A member on another forum gave me this checklist:

-tank, 10g min with secure lid
-climbing material
-clay pot (personal preference, you can turn these almost upsidedown on the ground or elevated and it can give them a nice hideout thats easy to get in and out if scared)
-shredded coconut sunstrate (personal preference again, imo its the best thing to hold humidity and wont mold)
-water bottle mister
-crested gecko diet/repashy two part mix
-thermometer/hygrometer
-~65-70% humidty or a little higher, thats where i keep mine at
-upper 70s temp
-its my understanding that you can feed them every night, mine are troubled eaters but then again i adopted 4 of them in a 10g tank. and have been working with them ever since, and finally affording to get them in a proper sized tank.
-keep handling out of the question for 2-3 weeks for distressing, and dont hold for too long at any given session
-try your hardest to not mess with the tail, it can come off due to stress, even accidentally grabbing it. they are fragile, but if it does fall then theres nothing to worry as its designed to heal fast.

Anyone have ideas? Suggestions? Corrections?

So far your list sounds pretty good. But 4 geckos in a 10 is definitely crowded depending on how large they are. Either way I would get a larger setup up very soon. You can add some sticks for them to climb on so they're not always bumping into each other. I wouldn't worry about the clay pot but you could get a bunch of fake plants from a craft store to use for cover and to break up territories. Live plants would be even better and would help with the humidity levels in the tank.

it sounds like your missing one of the best parts, live plants! like vicous mentioned, having live plants just give your animals a natural feeling. i just read this great article about plants in vivariums and terrariums, they suggest all kinds of different plants for specific herps...ill try and find the link

Oh, I copied and pasted that instruction list from another forum and added a few things. I dont agree with the four in one anyways. Apparently you're supposed to keep the babies in a critter keeper otherwise they get nervous and wont eat. I plan on converting a 10g into a single gecko habitat.

I worry about live plants though because they wouldnt get much natural light.
