There's a places near me that sells crushed black granite, would this be safe for Aquarium substrate? I haven't seen it yet, but I wanna know if it's a safe option before I go down there to look at it.

i would only use something like that if it's been properly sealed, as a substrate like granite is going to grind and rub against each other and create a lot of messy dust.

Properly sealed?

I would think the exact opposite, that you wouldn't want it sealed.

granite is pretty hard rock, and I'm fairly certain its inert as well. If you're worried, see if you can take a handful home. Do the vinegar test, and put some in a jar and rub it around to see if you can get it to break down. I think it would be fine.

I would use crushed granite as is after rinsing. Ive seen some tanks using it as substrate and it looks good. Also I wouldnt worry about it creating dust from rubbing together as granite is praised in many building applications for its abrasion resistance.

yeah, iirc it is inert (if it is truly granite)

Granite is about the safest rock to put in an aquarium. It also would not make dust. If anything it would make a sand like material when crushed or ground up. Yes its safe. I have had granite in my tanks for awhile and I also supply it wholesale to my lfs which not only sells it retail but has had it in their tanks for years.
