i got some crypts in the mail (Cryptocoryne spiralis to be exact) and they completely melted on me. ive read tht crypts tend to do this, but all the leaves are gone with nothin but roots. i was wonderin if they will survie and regrow?

the lights i have over my 25 gallon im not sure are sufficent, but all i have right now. i have the origanal light tht came with the tank, with a new plant bulb, and 2 ten gallon hoods over it. the bulbs i use for them are the 4 10w Mini Compact Fluorescent screw in plant bulbs u can get at ur LFS( 2 bulbs per hood).

are these lights ok? if they are i wont upgrade. thx for the help

Brandon.

Some crypts are prone to 'melt' when replanted or moved.

they do not require 'high' light and will grow in low light tank (1wpg).

I have had crypts grow from root with a stub on it.

they are pretty hardy and in some locations considered invasive.

they may just do fine ..leave the roots and see what happens.

THX for the reply and yeah i have the bulb thing with all the roots connected still planted.

What about my light question, do u think that is suffient light for my thank?

If the roots were a nice healthy white color and solid feeling (not beige and weak) when you planted them, the root stub should start growing leaves within a week or two.

I think they should be ok
Transfered a crypt to my tank, lost all its leaves, just the bulb with its roots, after about a week and a half i started seeing tiny leaves sprouting up, now it's really taking off :)

thx guys....have any input on the light question?

Crypts can do fairly well in low light.
Sounds like you have a reasonable amount of light over the tank though, with 4 10w bulbs + the plant bulb.
My 15g only has 18w over it and my crypts are fine.

it's 4 10w and 1 20w strip. just wonderin is the 10 gallon hoods over the tank is ok and provide suffient enough light. but ill prob upgrade latter anyway. thx for the responses
